Hall of Fame Manager Whitey Herzog has died at the age of 92

Why It Matters

Herzog who had been at Busch Stadium for the Cardinals home opener died on Monday. Herzog became the Cardinals Manager in 1980 and ended the team’s pennant drought. The Cardinals then won the World Series in 1982. Under Herzog the Cardinals won pennants in 1982, 1985 and 1987 to go with a World Series in 1982. Herzog had managed the Kansas City Royals before his time with the Cardinals.
