NBA Hall of Famer Dikembe Mutombo has died of brain cancer at the age of 58

Why It Matters

Mutombo played 18 seasons in the NBA for the Denver Nuggets, Atlanta Hawks, Philadelphia 76ers, New Jersey Nets, New York Knickerbockers and Houston Rockets. Mutombo was named as the NBA’s top defensive player four times, earned three All NBA selections and played in eight all star games. Mutombo went into the NBA Hall of Fame in 2015 and had his number retired by both the Denver Nuggets and Atlanta Hawks. Off the court Mutombo had a charitable foundation to improve health, education and quality of life in his home country of the Congo.
