The Carolina Hurricanes will retire the jersey of centre Eric Staal

Steal announced his retirement from the NHL on Tuesday and signed a ceremonial one day contract with the Hurricanes to retire as a member of their team. The Hurricanes have furthermore announced that they will retire Staal’s number 12 with a date still yet to be announced. Staal was drafted second overall by the Hurricanes in 2003 and had 1,063 career points in 1,365 career games with the Hurricanes, New York Rangers, Minnesota Wild, Buffalo Sabres, Montreal Canadiens and Florida Panthers. Staal had 64 points in 104 playoff games and won a Stanley Cup with the Hurricanes in 2006.
