The NHL has named its finalists for the Calder Trophy

Why It Matters

The Calder Trophy is given annually to the rookie of the year as voted on by the Professional Hockey Writers Association to be announced at a later date. The finalists are Chicago Blackhawks centre Connor Bedard, Minnesota Wild defenseman Brock Faber and New Jersey Devils defenseman Luke Hughes. Bedard who was drafted first overall by the Blackhawks in the 2023 draft lead all rookies in points with 61 against the backdrop of being limited to 68 games by a broken jaw. Faber had 47 points for the Wild and played in all 82 of their games. Hughes had 25 power play points playing in all 82 games for the Devils.
