The St Louis Cardinals have placed designated hitter Matt Carpenter on the ten day injured list

Why It Matters

Carpenter is going on the ten day injured list with a lower back injury. The transaction is retroactive to Friday for Carpenter who is batting .255 with three home runs in 42 games this season. The three time all star has 178 home runs and 655 runs batted in in 1,494 career MLB games with the Cardinals, New York Yankees and San Diego Padres. The Cardinals have called up outfielder Jordan Walker from Memphis in a corresponding transaction.
